Test Apps, Make Money

Michael Ebako-Hodgson

A lot has changed in the past weeks as shelter in place orders have impacted people globally. While some can continue to work from home, others suddenly have more "free time" than they want. Well, if you have access to a phone or laptop, you can spend that time making money testing the latest applications from companies like BuzzFeed and SoundCloud. All you need to do is become a tester with test IO.

What do testers do at test IO?

In short, companies provide test IO with their applications (web, ios, android, OTT, etc...), then test IO invites members of their global testing community (testers like you) to perform different kinds of testing (functional, usability, etc..) on those apps. Testers then get paid for every valid bug that they find and report - up to $50 per bug.

Why become a tester

Earn great money

On some tests, you can earn up to $50 for every issue you find. Can’t find any bugs? No problem. You can also be paid for reproducing issues found by other testers, completing user stories or test cases, rating apps, and more.

Gain valuable professional skills in software testing

As a tester, you will gain real-world software testing experience that you will be able to point to in the future. Take Alex Che for example. He was a policeman and with his test IO experience got a job as a full-time tester for a software development company. Read his full interview to learn more.

Work from anywhere

Be it your couch or your favorite island getaway if you have a laptop, smartphone, smart TV, etc.. and WiFi or Cell service you can be testing. So why not while watching Netflix, test some apps and make some cash?

Career path within test IO

Our testers not only go on to work for other companies, but they can also earn full-time positions at test IO. We are always looking for talented individuals who are looking for leadership roles in our community.

Getting started

Registering as a Tester

As a quality assurance company, the quality of work our testers do is very important to us. The process of joining our testing community is the first step to ensuring that quality. You will be asked to create a profile, and to add information about the devices you have available to test with – your Phone, iPad, and Roku for example. Once completed, you will be sent an invitation to our Onboarding quiz.

The Onboarding quiz simulates a real test scenario on a real website or app. This teaches you how to find and report bugs through the test IO platform. At the end of the quiz, every bug submitted will be reviewed like it would during an actual test. People who submit bugs that meet the criteria laid out at the start of the quiz will be passed and accepted as full-fledged members of the test IO tester community.

Testing with test IO

Once you’re a part of the community, it will be time to start testing. You’ll receive test invitations via email based on your profile and device information. When you accept an invitation, you will be asked to perform exploratory functional testingusability testinguser story testing, or test case executions. When you find an issue, you report it. That’s it.

Don’t know anything about software testing? Not a problem. test IO offers a comprehensive tester Academy, educational YouTube videos, various Community events, and an active tester forum all geared to make you a better tester. Besides, all you need is common sense and a basic idea of how websites and apps operate – we are looking for real users! These websites and apps were designed for people like you.

Payment

You get paid for every bug that you submit that a company accepts. The amount you can earn per bug depends on its bug type and severity. These values will differ depending on the customer and the test type. You’ll find detailed information about the different bug payouts for each test when you open the test overview page in a table like this:

The money you earn will be paid out to you in full every month, via services like PayPal, SEPA bank transfer, Payoneer, and a few others. What you do with it after that is entirely up to you.

So if you are looking for a way to earn some money, why not do it while exploring the newest apps and websites from the comfort of your couch? All you need is a device, free time, and an eye for detail. If you don’t believe me, take it from Ryan and Sam Hill who put out a test IO tutorial on youtube called “Earn $50 A Hour Testing Apps & Websites.”

If you don’t need any more convincing, sign up now to become a tester with test IO.
